6 Scary Side Effects of Sugar

There is another article currently on MSN which discusses the six scary side effects of sugar. Before I begin this post, I don’t want it to appear that I have it out for MSN. MSN News happens to be the redirect page when I log out of Hotmail and I naturally glance at the headlining articles.

So, one of the scary side effects of sugar (side effect #4) is that sugar can increase your chances of depression. Really?? Although the article admits the actual mechanism is unknown, it speculates insulin resistance may force the release of stress hormones. Sorry, I don’t buy it.

Sugar can be blamed for many things, such as increased triglycerides, weight gain, maybe even hyperactivity…..but depression?? Perhaps if I ate a lot of sugar and got high triglycerides, became overweight, and was always hyperactive….maybe then I’d be depressed. Okay, perhaps there could be a little truth in this. But don’t blame it on the release of stress hormones. State the cause for what it really is: sugar-seeking overweight, hyperactive individuals with high triglycerides who then become depressed.

Here’s a link to the article: 6 Scary Side Effects of Sugar.  Enjoy!
