Yellow Mustard: the sore throat soother

I was recently told of a new way (to me at least) of soothing a sore throat and reducing phlegm: yellow mustard. Yes, the same stuff that goes on top of hot dogs and burgers. I was skeptical and had forgotten about it until my throat started hurting today. It Works! Can’t tell you the specific soothing ingredient(s) inside the mustard or how it specifically interacts to relieve the pain.

I took 2 tablespoons (quite a bit) and it numbed my throat in about 10 minutes. I felt more relief with the mustard than with the old standby of mentho-lyptus cough drops. I don’t know if it really helps to reduce phlegm as I’m not experiencing that today (knock on wood). Give it a try. It’s cheap and it’s feeling like it’s really working.
